For my concept video I decided to explore environmental anxiety for now. There are many in my film, but this idea came the easiest to me.

Filming

I used my camera (Canon 80D) which I'm comfortable with and have used for a few years now. I decided to go for a walk in Kelvingrove Park to see what I could find to film. Lots of beautiful lush trees waiting for autumn to paint their leaves reds and yellows, and surprisingly minimal litter much to my disappointment. However, when walking back towards Gilmorehill, I struck gold. There was this huge container full of waste, which looked like a mini landfill. Perfect for what I needed to film. There was a crow happily sifting through the rubbish which I filmed for a while, it seemed to be looking for a snack and maybe some building materials. What really struck me was the amount of 'recyclable' coffee cups in this pile, as here was a prime example of greenwashing in action. We as consumers are sold the idea that we are helping the environment with paper cups and cardboard boxes rather than plastic. The consumer is made to feel responsible for that choice, and yet it ultimately does not matter as the reality is, that most of it ends up with non-recyclables and is thrown in landfill anyway.

Editing and Sound Design

I wanted to layer footage together like a palimpsest to blend pollution and nature, to make the screen feel choked up and overwhelming. In addition, the sound design features recordings made during studio time this week using contact and regular mics. I wanted to experiment with what sort of noises were picked up, so put it on various inanimate objects as well as on my throat to pick up vibrations.
