Reformatting The Plan

Going forward I think I am going to rethink the narrative of my film and see if I can deconstruct it away from a traditional ‘film plot’. I have made films where this worked really effectively, with making the plot very ambiguous, so I think breaking this one down into something very conceptual might be really interesting to do.

Does it need a plot? Does it need to be chronological? I can definitely work to deconstruct the narrative into something experimental and artistic. I have learnt a lot in the past couple of weeks about different techniques and styles which I had no clue about or even what to call as I'm self-taught. Techniques such as haptic visuality, non-linear editing, montage and multi-media are something I would like to focus on and develop.

The feedback I got on my documentary was great and I think I took a lot away from that session as well. Callum gave me lots of references to go away and study, as well as points that he liked in my film which I could develop further. I have a couple of shoots planned this coming week with Will and Evie, exploring liminal spaces, folklore and the environment so I am excited to see what happens with those. I think I have a rough sort of plan for now and then will just sort of see what happens on the day. I find that if I plan too much I lose the spontaneous decisions that really help me develop my craft.

TO DO:

- need to go and buy some more black and white Ilford camera film

- need to decide on a shooting location with Evie. Going to experiment with recreating Pre-Raphaelite paintings in a folk-horror-inspired way.

- need to get rough plan together for graveyard shoot with Will.
