Reflecting on my initial draft aka 'my lump of clay' for my experimental process, I have learnt a lot. I have learnt how to refine and develop my ideas, develop skills in sound design and building tension, strip back a lot of unneeded visual clutter to get to the heart of what I'm creating and not be afraid to use black screen and silence.
It has been an enjoyable process developing these ideas and improving from my first draft. Areas that work like the end 'chapter' and some of the visual language that I'm developing I have taken forward. Having 'chapters' I think made it confusing to anyone who is not me, so I might revisit that at a later date to see if I can make that work.
I think the most successful part of the experiment was developing my 'ear' for sound design. I have enjoyed focusing on sounds like rain, wind, thunder, heartbeats and breathing over the past few months, and developing a palette of tones to pull from. In my more recent experiments, I have taken this a step further by layering other textures into the soundscape, to create more dimension and depth. I'm happy with how it is going, but there is always room for improvement. Excited for the next steps.
